Flashpointing 2

284° 58' NET

Well, I made some progress. Ap mines are in place and I also added claymores in player basic weapons loadout. Doing that, trying some extra tweaking and a few other things with alarms and so on took whole yesterday evening. I'm not a programming wizard at all so to make things work the way I want takes some time....and I'm probably not very 'clean' with my 'programming'. But as long as it works, that's good enough for me.

This is a part of the mission map seen through the editor.

This is why I like Flashpoint. Anyone can make their own missions or even campaigns.
Once you have played the game through you can just download those and keep on playing. It makes the game last from year to year.
Talking about bang for your buck :)

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance

210° 15' NET

Well, it looks nice and cool (though a little cubistic), but I fear that it's going to be with limited freedom of movement. That means that you can't approach as you would like to.

They have one shot to make this work. I really really hope that they won't screw up with this game, because it's potential is so great. If it would be killed by unperforming, that would make me very sad indeed.

I'm sure they are trying to make it special, because if they succeed there will be more games based on Stargate universe. And that would be nice.

Flashpointing

207° 03' NET

Well, after a week - more or less - of editing and adding and correcting and swearing and shouting, it's almost ready: a single player mission for Operation Flashpoint.

This one I started already almost 1.5 years ago, but it's been laying half finished on my computer for about a year. Last week I finally thought about making it ready.

To make one is kind of like writing a book. You need to have a storyline, a plot, which is the backbone of the mission. You have to make mission briefing, notes, weapons configuration, player character setup + other team members, scripts for editor and so on. You also need to decide what if any add-ons you want to use. Then you have to think about the opfor.

After all that is thought about you can start editing and making it work. It takes a lot of time. Depending on how precise you want to be, you can fine-tune it for ages.

I'm almost done with all the editing, most of the triggers are in place, though I think I'm still going to add CoC's mines in the mixture. And I have to do some fine tuning with the enemy behaviour, maybe add some. Then finally I have to sprinkle some civilian activity on the map and hook it up with opfor, since that's a part of the plot. Oh, and I have to add one more objective for the player to fulfill. So, I guess that's still one weeks worth of evening fun and visiting OFP Editing Center.

Once it's ready -in my opinion- I can post it for beta testing and see how it does. Then I have to correct the issues coming up with that, repost it and if all is well, it can be posted for others to download....that would probably still take a while.

Anyway, I had already forgotten the fun of mission designing. It's nice to be doing it again.

Valentine's Day

240° 15' NET

What should I write on this romantic day of commercial hulabaloo?

How about toilets?

At work we have this two-stroke system. Two pots for the guys to fume on. Yeah, it's a guy toilet, which means that it's not always in peak condition. If the difference between wieners and peaches is visible somewhere, it is in the toilets between gents and ladies. Anyone who has visited both knows this for a fact.

I was seeing a man about a horse you know, and I hear all this huffing and puffing next door. It's pretty obvious what's going on in there.
Every once and a while there's a distinct sound of air refresher being used, sometimes quite franticly. At least he used it, not like some others who only admire that pretty bottle hanging on the wall while releasing deadly gases...bastards!
Anyway, suddenly it sounds like the business is done and the guy advances to the next phase of bowel movement procedure - wipe out subroutine. I can't hear anything, but I guess it went well since he is out in no time.

Next thing is hygienic restoration. He starts to wash his hands and oh boy does he wash his hands. I'm done with my thing, and I'm just listening to the sounds of frantic hand washing.
It took almost 5 minutes. It was like he was preparing for an open heart surgery.
If you had to wipe with bare hands I'd get that, but just normally speaking - I think normal people would have had bloody stumps instead of hands after that session.

Then at last he is satisfied with his raw hands and exits the establishment. I don't know who it was, but I guess I just have to go and see who has his hands wrapped in tomorrow.

PS. Couple of handy tips for people who have to go big time, but are not feeling comfortable about sitting on 'someones lap' so to speak. I mean that ring you sit on can have really various chemical reamains on it and if you can avoid touching it - please do.
1. If you have a luxury of having air refresher in a bottle you can use that as a cleaning solution. It contains alcohol which kills the germs and on top of that it suddenly also smells nice and fresh in there.
2. Cover that newly cleaned surface with toilet paper from the toilet roll. Not the first couple of rounds, rip those out and use fresh inner layers. A piece of three as whole on all the sides plus separate pieces for the corners. If you are really paranoid you can do two layers.
For guys who have something to brag about, remember to flush first and then use refresher in the toilet seat, spraying full circle inside.

Oh, and for my Valentine: hey baby, I dig you ;)

Men are happier because...

272° 15' NET

What do you expect from such simple creatures?

Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours.

Wedding plans take care of themselves.

Chocolate is just another snack.

You can be president.

You can never be pregnant.

You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park.

You can wear NO-shirt to a water park.

Car mechanics tell you the truth.

The world is your urinal.

You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky.

You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.

Same work, more pay.

Wrinkles add character.

Wedding dress $5,000. Tux rental -- $100.

People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.

The occasional well-rendered belch is practically expected.

New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.

One mood -- all the time.

Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.

You know stuff about tanks.

A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.

You can open all your own jars.

You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.

If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend.

Your underwear is $5.95 for a three-pack.

Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.

You almost never have strap problems in public.

You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.

Everything on your face stays its original color.

The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.

You only have to shave your face and neck.

You can play with toys all your life.

Your belly usually hides your big hips.

One wallet and one pair of shoes one color for all seasons.

You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look.

You can "do" your nails with a pocketknife.

You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.

You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24th in 45 minutes.

No wonder men are happier!

Contact lenses

251° 03' NET

I know a guy who got his contact lenses after using regular glasses since childhood. He has a minus vision which means he can see close but not far.

Minus lenses tends to make things look smaller. This he noticed once he sat behind his computer and looked at his tube for the first time with his contacts on. He was surprised how big it suddenly looked. It was HUGE!

This brought another idea in his head and hurrying himself, he dashed to the bathroom. His wife could hear his excited yelling "Wow, it's HUGE!!"

Shrugging to herself, not knowing what all the ruckus was about, she went back to what she had been doing - cleaning up the kitchen counter under cabinet.

She didn't notice her husband who walked in with a big proud smile. Looking down at his spouse, his smile vanished and was replaced by astonished, bewildered expression.
"Man, that's HUGE!!"

Going once, going twice - sold

290° 03' NET

Well, everything for my trip seems to be in order now.
It's going to be a busy 2 weeks.

The most interesting bit of it will be the first MGM Stargate SG-1/Atlantis convention where I am going to participate. It also includes a visit to the actual sets at The Bridge Studios.

Still 2 months to go, which - I'm sure - will go pretty fast.
